We recently had a lovely and intimate family and friend baby shower thrown by my mother-in-law and my sister, Priscilla. I have to admit, I love planning parties, so letting others take over can be a challenge for me. Not that I don’t have faith in the amazing people in my life, but I want to help! Plus, I love the creativity that comes with party planning. My sister took over duties of baby shower games. I couldn’t help but to give her some ideas. I knew I didn’t want traditional baby shower games. Over the years I have seen the same baby games played over and over again. I wanted games that would be fun and interactive. Here are the games we played at our baby shower.
We love watching Jeopardy while relaxing at home. We get really into it sometimes and have gotten to know the contestants while blurting out our own answers in question form. I have also played Jeopardy with my students to teach them about reading strategies. My students absolutely loved it! I have never seen them so engaged or competitive. Maybe even a little too competitive. If I can get 32 4th-graders into Jeopardy, then why wouldn’t my baby shower crowd enjoy it too?
I found inspiration about how we could implement this in baby shower-style through Pinterest. Here were our questions and categories (Click on image for doc):
Name that Baby Song
This game consists of guessing the name of a song with the word “baby” in it. There are lyrics to these popular songs as prompts. To make it even more fun, my sister put together a playlist containing all of the songs in the list. That way we could listen to the song as we were filling out the game card. The game card we used was found on Etsy.
Guess Who Said It: Mommy or Daddy?
My sister found this printable on Etsy. Guests must guess who said the baby-related statement. I must admit, some of these were tricky as Guy and I have both said some the items or neither of us have said certain ones.
Here are some more photos from our wonderful baby shower.
