At-home teeth whitening: does it work?

The best thing to prepare me for my day of taking on teaching 32 students is coffee or tea. Lately, I have taken to tea, which has been an absolutely lovely way to start the day! Although this warms me up in the morning and makes me feel good, there is a negative aspect that comes with coffee and tea drinking: teeth stains.

As someone that is very busy, I have found that getting around to whitening has been trouble in the past. I have tried many different methods from store-bought whitening strips to natural remedies like vinegar, baking soda, or coconut oil. With the traditional whitening strips, I found that it was always so hard for me to keep them on. I was constantly having to readjust them and I didn’t want to do much with them on. When using natural remedies, I didn’t find much success and quite frankly, my stomach didn’t agree with many of these ways either.

I think one of the best ways to make a good impression is to show the care you take of yourself. A bright smile is one of the easiest ways to look well cared for. Luckily, I came across Smile Brilliant. I was so excited to learn that everything you need for the process is easily done at home! I have always wanted to try a professional-level whitening system, but with such a busy schedule, I don’t have time for extra trips to the dentist, just for whitening.

When my Smile Brilliant box arrived, I felt ready to take on this seemingly intimidating process because of the information provided. The process was so easy because the box comes with very detailed instructions and each container is nicely labeled. There were even tips on what to do if I messed up my first attempt at making the molds. Smile Brilliant thoughtfully includes extra mold containers just in case (and did this come in handy for me!). In all, my box included custom-fitted trays designed specially to fit my teeth, and 3 whitening & desensitizing gel syringes. The entire box was a value of $149.00.

After I did my molds, I mailed them back in the pre-stamped envelope and waited for my trays to arrive. It took about two weeks for the entire process (this included sending the molds to Smile Brilliant, the making of my trays, and getting the finished product in the mail).

Once I received my trays in the mail, I wanted to try it right away! I typically have sensitive teeth, so I was a little worried at first. One thing that really helped me was a tip I read on the How-to and FAQ page that suggested putting coconut oil along the gum line. This was such a helpful tip and it made my first session comfortable. Because the trays were molded from impressions of my teeth, they fit like a glove! I didn’t feel restricted from doing anything. It was easy to do things around the house without worrying that they would fall off.

After I whitened for about an hour, I would brush the whitening residue off with a non-whitening toothpaste. Then, I would use the desensitizing gel for 20 minutes. I found that the best time to whiten was around bedtime, this way I knew I wouldn’t need to eat anything afterward. Because I have more sensitive teeth, I found that I needed to whiten every other day.

I noticed results after just the first few sessions, and Guy noticed my pearly whites too! I am so pleased with how much whiter they appear. If you are looking for a better way to whiten your teeth, I would absolutely recommend trying Smile Brilliant.
